Diego Acevedo

Representative of the Caribbean

Ph.D

Dr. Acevedo is an engineer, sustainability and innovation expert specialized in development of solutions for small island states. Based in Aruba, he is currently the program manager for the SISSTEM (Sustainable Islands Solutions through Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) faculty of the University of Aruba. He has worked on the development of innovative technological solutions related to marine energy, district cooling networks, potable water generation, marine-based floating solar PV electricity generation and harsh environment agriculture technologies.

Some highlights of his work include being founder of Eneda Engineering Services VBA, an Engineering Consultancy firm focused on Sustainable Energy, Water and Food technologies with a special focus on Island solutions; co-founder of Bluerise BV, now part of Allseas Engineering BV, working on Ocean Thermal Energy Technology development and co-owner of Happyponics VBA, a company pioneering sustainable tropical agricultural solutions.

Dr. Acevedo holds a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from KU Leuven (Belgium), a MSc. in Sustainable Energy from TU Delft (The Netherlands) and a BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida (USA).
