Héctor García-Nava is a research scientist and professor of physics and wave dynamics at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), Mexico. He has been head of the Physical Oceanography Department of the Institute of Oceanographic Research (IIO) of the UABC since 2017. He has a PhD in Physical Oceanography, granted in 2011 by the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada (CICESE).
His main research interests are related to ocean waves, including: wave energy harnessing, wave dynamics, wave effects on air-sea interaction, and coastal processes. He is a member of PAMEC since 2020, he had an active role in the planning and promotion of PAMEC 2022 in Ensenada, México, and since have been contributing to PAMEC’s board at different levels.
Some awards he had received include: the “Francisco Medina Martínez” awarded for the best doctoral thesis in geosciences in 2011, by the Mexican Geophysical Union, he has been distinguished as National Research Scientist level-1 by the National System of Researchers of the Mexican Council for Sciences and Technology (SNI-CONACyT) since 2012 and as a Distinguished Professor by the Secretary of Public Education (SEP) since 2014.
