The 4th Pan-American Marine Energy Conference (PAMEC) will once again bring together researchers, governments, and industry with an interest in marine and offshore renewable energy in the Americas (including the Caribbean). The event arrives for the first time in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from April 10 to 15, 2026. The organizing committee is led by Chair Prof. Dr. Milad Shadman of COPPE/UFRJ.
Pre-conference Workshops are planned for Friday and Saturday (April 10 & 11) with the opening reception on the evening of Sunday, April 12th, before the conference officially kicks off on Monday morning, April 13-15th.
PAMEC 2026 is part of the family of conferences on Marine Renewable Energy Research and Development including, the European Wave and Tidal Conference (EWTEC) and the Asian Wave and Tidal Conference (AWTEC) and is held bi-annually. The first PAMEC was held in 2020 in Costa Rica followed by PAMEC 2022 Mexico and PAMEC 2024 Colombia.
A key element of the conference includes presentations of abstracts submitted by researchers for review by the PAMEC Science & Technical Committee. Topics and themes that have emerged include Socio-economics, Environmental Effects, Resource characterization, Offshore Wind, Grid Integration, Instream & Tidal, Wave, Salinity Gradient, and OTEC.
A Call for Abstracts has been issued with the goal of completing the process and the conference program by November 2025.
The PAMEC Conference format includes
- Pre-Conference Workshops:
Focused sessions on specialized topics such as environmental monitoring, offshore wind feasibility, and data-sharing frameworks. Workshops provide hands-on learning opportunities and foster technical discussions. - Plenary Sessions:
Global and regional perspectives delivered by leading experts in marine renewable energy. These sessions set the tone for the event and address pressing topics and opportunities in the sector. - Technical Tracks:
Presentations organized by thematic research areas and designed to showcase cutting-edge research, including the results of extended abstract submissions. These tracks are the core of the conference program and are developed in collaboration with the Technical Committee. - Networking Events:
Receptions, The Gala Dinner, and informal gatherings create opportunities for attendees to connect with peers, industry professionals, and potential collaborators. - Cultural Activities:
Host countries showcase their heritage through organized tours, cultural presentations, and local cuisine, ensuring participants experience the unique identity of the region. - Side Events:
Tailored activities designed to complement the main program and offer additional value to participants
