Paola holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Marine Sciences, specializing in Aquatic Chemistry, and a PhD in Civil Engineering, all completed at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). During her PhD, she focused on the study of marine energy, particularly on the feasibility of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) systems. Currently, she is a researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences and Limnology of UNAM, where she leads projects on ocean energy and coastal sustainability.

Her work focuses on the evaluation of the feasibility of OTEC systems and their applications, such as desalination and cooling systems, and their use in aquaculture and cold water agriculture. For seven years, she collaborated with the Mexican Center for Ocean Energy Innovation (CEMIE-Ocean), where she actively participated in the ocean thermal gradient line. During this period, she also served as treasurer of the student committee of CEMIE-Oceano and of the Pan-American Ocean Energy Students Network (POES.Energy), promoting the dissemination and development of ocean energy throughout the Americas. In addition, she has worked as a consultant in the cooperative Ancegri, facilitating the linkage between institutions and companies in projects related to ocean thermal energy. Her main objective is to promote sustainable solutions that drive coastal development and accelerate the energy transition in Mexico, using the potential of ocean energies.
